What it means
During a probing move the stylus deflects further than the maximum allowed by the corresponding machine parameter. This protects the probe mechanism from overtravel damage after a missed or late touch signal.
Likely causes
- probing feedrate too high for the reaction time allowed
- bent or damaged stylus changing the trigger geometry
- parameter for maximum deflection set too tight for the application
Triage note: Inspect the stylus for a bent tip after any occurrence; repeated overruns wreck the probe's internal switch.
