Fagor alarm E215: Power bus voltage too high (hardware trip)

DDS drive display code (AXD/SPD/ACD/SCD seven-segment) · Fagor DDS drives

What it means

Regenerated energy from the spinning spindle raised the DC bus past the hardware limit. The internal ballast path must be present (bridge fitted) or an external resistor must take the energy; any break in that chain causes the trip. Frequent on spindles because they store far more kinetic energy than axes during rapid stops.

Likely causes

  • internal ballast bridge/jumper missing after drive service
  • external ballast resistor open-circuit, burnt or badly terminated
  • contactor between resistor bank and bus not closing
  • line voltage spikes stacking onto regeneration events

Triage note: Measure the resistor cold: an open ballast reads infinite ohms and every hard spindle stop then dumps into the overvoltage trip. Related codes: E304/E306.
