What it means
Drive sampled the distance-coded reference-mark pattern of the linear scale and got inconsistent spacing - semi-absolute homing impossible.
Likely causes
- oil film/chips on exposed scale window
- reading gap altered (bracket bumped, cover impact)
- scale speed outside sampling spec during pass
- distance-coded head marginal
Triage note: Clean + gap-check resolves most cases; escalate to replacement only if marks remain unreadable at correct gap and speed. Mirrors CNC alarm 4136.
