Fanuc alarm E: RAM WRITE/READ TEST ERROR AT POWER UP (unit LED)

What it means
On Power Mate / Beta I/O Link servo units, the 7-segment LED shows 'E' when the RAM write/read test performed internally at every power-up detects a failure. The unit cannot be trusted to hold working data and will not come ready on the I/O Link, which in turn raises link-side alarms at the CNC.
Likely causes
- Defective internal RAM on the unit's control board
- Unstable internal 5V/control supply
- Repeated brown-outs corrupting power-up test conditions
Triage note: Verify clean 24V/200V feeds and retry one cold boot before exchanging the unit; a persistent E at every power-up confirms hardware failure.
