Siemens alarm 20300: [Channel %1: ] Axis %2 orientation not possible

What it means

A spindle/axis orientation command (e.g. M19, SPOS) cannot be executed because the prerequisites for position-controlled orientation are not fulfilled. The control needs a working position measuring system and free resources to superimpose the orientation movement.

Likely causes

• spindle has no position-measuring encoder configured or encoder defective
• spindle measuring system not referenced / absolute position lost
• orientation already active or overlaid motion blocked by another function
• spindle currently in speed-control mode without permission to switch to position control
