Siemens alarm 25100: Axis %1 measuring system switchover not possible

What it means

A requested changeover between the axis measuring systems (e.g. motor encoder to direct scale) was rejected because the target system is unavailable, not synchronized, or the current state does not allow switching. Redundancy or accuracy changeover therefore did not happen.

Likely causes

• target encoder not connected/configured (MD 30240[n] = 0) or defective
• target measuring system not referenced/absolute position invalid
• switchover attempted during motion under disallowed conditions
• encoder changeover machine data inconsistent
