What it means
The cross-check (CRC) that accompanies every drive-bus write/read cycle handled by the bus ASICs detected corrupted data or addresses. The alarm frequently occurs as a consequential fault of a momentary power failure of one or more drive modules, but persistent occurrences indicate genuine bus hardware damage.
Likely causes
- momentary electronics-supply dip of one or more drive modules (most common)
- degraded drive bus ribbon/cable, connector or termination
- bus ASIC / transceiver failure inside a drive module
- EMC noise or ground loops coupling into the drive bus
Triage note: If it only ever appears together with a mains dip, fix the supply problem - the bus itself is usually innocent. Record error location %3 for repeated faults.
