Siemens alarm 61101: Reference plane incorrectly defined

What it means

A drilling or milling cycle received a relative depth while the reference plane and retraction plane were given the same value, making the machining depth indeterminate. Either different values must be chosen for reference and retraction planes, or the depth must be programmed absolutely. In manual-machine operation the safety clearance setting data (SD 55260/55261) must also be plausible.

Likely causes

• Relative depth programmed with RTP = RFZ
• Sign convention of depth misunderstood for the plane used
• Safety clearance/retraction plane setting data unsuitable for manual mode
