Siemens alarm F31131: Encoder 1: Deviation position incremental/absolute too large

What it means

When cyclically reading the absolute position, the difference against the incremental position exceeded the limit (encoder-defined for EnDat, else 15 pulses), so the absolute value was rejected. On incremental encoders the check fires at zero-mark passages when marks deviate from their reference spacing. Typical field causes are contamination, strong magnetic fields disturbing the scale, or mechanical slip.

• dirty or damaged coding disk/scale
• strong ambient magnetic fields near the encoder
• mechanical slip between scale and scanning head
• EMC noise on encoder lines; wrong p0425 spacing setting
• encoder electronics aging out of specification
